The Kentucky Derby is on Saturday. Much like one of Goldman Sachs deals, it's a pretty shitty year on the Triple Crown trail. Note there are only two horses with morning line odds below 10-1. That's Lookin at Lucky and Sidney's Candy. Bob Baffert trains Lookin for Lucky and he drew the rail. Sidney's Candy (from the Sid and Jenny Craig family) drew Post Position 20, the far outside. In between, there is a whole lot of nothin' goin' on.

But there is one horse I would not mind taking a shot with, and that's Ice Box, who drew Post Position 2 and is 10-1. Trained by Nick Zito, and he says Ice Box is a late bloomer. Even though the field is crap, there should be loads of speed in this one. Some are predicting the half-mile in 44 and change. That means it is setting up for the closers, of which Ice Box is one.

Check out the breeding on Ice Box. His Sire is Pulpit and his Dam is Spice Island. His Grandsire, of course, is A.P. Indy and his Damsire is Tabasco Cat. So, we have bloodlines going back to Seattle Slew and Secretariat and Storm Cat. On paper, it's a trail of racing royalty and that looks like a winner.
