I finally made it to new Capitol Theatre on 65th. My Dad and I saw the latest Coen Brothers movie, "A Serious Man". Big crowd of 10. A movie on two fronts. "Every act has a consequence", it seemed, and what life was probably like for Jews living in Minnesota during the late sixties, an autobiographical nod from the Coens.

After a lengthy tale to start, in Yiddish with subtitles, the strains of Jefferson Airplane can be heard. They did a magnificent job with props and set design. A can of Orange Hi-C, a calendar on the wall with big black numbers and red for holidays, a Mustang in a driveway, "F Troop" on TV, the Columbia Record Club, all spot on.

Some of these actors you've seen, others you have not. But the casting again was terrific. This is one of those movies that grows on you and definitely you can have fun thinking about it and all its possibilities. Will be making lots of year-end best lists.

BTW, the Capitol has free popcorn on Tuesdays and a nice concession area. Our film was upstairs, where the theatre seats 131. No reclining chairs or cup holders, but pretty comfy. Might get a little cramped with a full house though.

Bad Chinese. In Copenhagen.

"Rain Man" dies. Kmart still sucks.

Jeff Probst agrees. Russell got screwed.

On the Tenth Day of Christmas

What a cheesy Christmas set. I mean, the effect is dulled when the camera pulls back. I think Dino could sing this song in his sleep. And, after watching this video, he may have actually done it. Hey, Dean, watch that cig, will ya?

"It's time to play, it's a whipped cream day..."

Exercise Yard

These are the types of things that are threatened, but rarely happen. The Belmont Stakes is in jeopardy.

For years I heard the Preakness would move from Pimlico or Pimlico would shut down. Yet, every May, I see the Preakness run at Pimlico.
